The European Frisbeegolf Championships in Langevåg, (Sula) Norway, ended with a medal celebration for Finnland. There were as many as eight medals overall. Niklas Anttila in the open, Eetu Tuominen in junior boys and Eveliina Salonen in the women’s division became European champions.
Niklas Anttila a superior winner
In open class, Niklas Anttila took an overwhelming victory. Anttila picked up a spike in the competition already after the opening round and kept his lead until the end. In the end, the margin of victory was a whopping 16 throws, with a combined score of -32. No one else had any reason to fight for victory in these coils.
The real competition was for silver and bronze medals. At the end of a tight battle, Germany’s Timo Hartmann managed to go silver in difficult conditions of final day with a combined score of -16. The bronze medal eventually went to Kristian Kuoksa with a fantastic last fairway of birding. Kuoksa missed only two throws away from the second leg of the prize ball and a silver medal with a combined score of -14.

Eveliina Salonen hijacked gold
Eveliina Salonen, winner of the women’s American championship last weekend, picked up European Championship gold. Salonen, who left Estonia’s Kristin Lätt from behind for a final round, eventually managed to overtake the reigning European champions on the follow-up routes. The struggle was really tight and the two ended up tied after four laps of -3.
On the second follow-up route, both failed to their opening throws. Salonen put the approach right under the basket when Lätt left a ten-metre putt. As Lätti failed, Salonen was allowed to put the puck on the basket, winning the European title.
The bronze medal was captured after a tight battle by Henna Blomroos with a score of +15. Blomroos managed to keep a hard-hitting rise of Britain’s Rachel Turton behind him. In the end, there was only one throw between the two.

Junior Boys win a triple!
In the MJ18 junior band, Eetu Tuominen took gold, with a combined score of -8. Tuominen did the same trick as Anttila, topped the competition in the opening round and kept the lead until the end. The win came off with a pretty clear difference of ten throws.
The struggle for other places at the podium was tough. The fate of silver and bronze was finally decided on the continuing routes, when Oiva Päivänsalo and Miio Hämäläinen both played their competitions to +2. After further routes, Hämäläinen managed to grab a silver medal to a podium’s second podium. According to the day, a European Championship bronze goes home.

Ida Emilie Nesse breaks the Finnish gold race
In the girls’ FJ18 class, Ida Emilie Nesse of Norway played an excellent final round and took European Championship gold with a convincing +8 combined score. Reigning champion Iida Lehtomäki, had to step down from the highest podium podium this time. Lehtomäki ended up ten throws at the tip in difficult conditions with a combined score of +18. The bronze medal heads to Sweden with +22 when Julia Fors managed to go to me for a great finish. By contrast, Czech Kristenna Jurzhkovsh collapsed in the final round and eventually dropped to fourth place with a total score of +23.

In total, Finland’s medal balance from the European Championships in 2025 was a whopping eight medals. Three golds, two silvers and three bronzes. Although there was no victory in all categories, expectations were eventually redeemed fairly.
Congratulations to all medal winners, but also to all European countries having sent their best players to compete in this most important European disc golf event.
