The EDGF European Masters Championships in Salzgitter, Germany, were completed on 30 August with a final round. The four-day competition included as many as 168 players from 29 countries in nine different competition categories. Finland then again was the most successful country winning three times Gold and ten medals in total.
Joni Lumi grabs Gold in MP40
Joni Luumi managed the MP40 division in gold class. Luumi played himself to the top of the competition with a top performance of the second round. The top spot stayed through the third round until the last putt to ensure a European Championship and a gold medal. The result of the bones, -31 (213 throws), separated him from the others by no fewer than seven throws.
The silver medal went to Switzerland’s Lukas Schär with a score of -24 (220 throws) and a bronze to Sweden’s Emil Dahlgren and Tony Ferro of Switzerland with a score of -22 (222 throws).

Hannele Määttä defended her title in FP40
Superb FP40 champion Hannele Määttä managed to defend his title, winning European Championship gold.The Oulun, who played a steady solid game throughout the competition, struggled to win Slovakia’s Katka Boďová.
The margins were very small, as there was only one throw after four rounds of the difference. However, the championship finally came to Finland with an end result of -2 (250 throws). Boďová’s score was -1 (251 throws). The bronze medal will eventually travel to Estonia with Kaire Tekku with +1 (253 throws).

Anders Swärd wins Gold in MP50 for Sweden
Havin already won the title in MP40 in Szarvas 2023, Anders Swärd now doubles it this year and grabs the gold medals also in MP50 with a score of -19 (225 throws).
Häko Hämäläinen and Ville Piippo, both from Finland, managed to play for themselves on podium. Hämäläinen for silver with -17 (227 throws) and Piippo for bronze, -15 (229 throws).

Heidi Bergroth wins another Gold medal for Finland
In FP50 division, Finland’s Heidi Bergroth won European Championship gold. Bergroth managed to beat rivals in long four-round race with a total score of +8 (256 throws)
Denmark’s Sabine Jensen Jåtog and Netherland’s Laura Nagtegaal missed out on +10 (258 throws). Bergroth stayed in the top two from the start of the race. But we went to the final round from a three-threaded back trip, which ultimately didn’t bother the Finn.

Host country awarded with Gold in MP55
The Golden Medal will remain in hosts with Germany’s Henning von Bandemer victory. The battle to win was wildly tight, with Norway’s Ove Halseth still leading the race before the final fairway. But the German took the win with a score of -20 (232 throws), with the Norwegian remaining for silver with a score of -19 (233 throws).
Jani Ketonen, who started the top spot in the final of the competition in MP55 division, finally had to settle for a bronze medal with a score of -17 (235 throws). Ketonen played well above his own level of competition and the medal itself is an excellent performance.

Another Gold medal for Sweden
Per Gylle crown his long career with a gold medal in MP60 and a score of -24 (224 throws), guided with Swedish team mate Fredrik Blom who won silver with a score of -18 (230 throws).
Kari “Käpä” Vesala managed to win a bronze medal. He won already a gold medal and a European Champion title in 2016 in Oulu in the MP50 division.

Second Gold medal for Germany
The Golden Medal in FP60 travels to Germany with Christine Hellstern with a score of +24 (272 throws). She played solid through all four rounds, taking the lead earlier and never gave it up to the finish.
Sinikka Bäck from Finland topped the podium and grabed the silver medal with +36 (284 throws). The Podium was completed by Germany’s Disolina Altenberg, who took the split bronze with Florence Berthe-Pagnier of France with a score of +45 (293 throws).
The FP60 division was played for the first time in a European Championships.

Derek Robins wins Gold for Great Britain
The race for the podium in MP65 was tight as from the beginning and changed from round to round. Played a bogey-free final round Britain’s Derek Robins secured the gold medal with score of -3 (245 throws).
George Braun from Germany moved up with a best final round and grabed another medal for the host country. Silver with a score of -2 (246 throws).The podium got completed by Karel Kolár from Czechia who secured bronze with -1 (247 throws).

Norwegian victory in MP70
Also for the first time, the MP70 division was played in EMDGC. Norwegian’s Terje Rørmark, who won a vronce medal in Szarvas 2023, played strong as from the start. With the absolute best score of all players on the shorter course (-8), the victory was never in question. Golf for Norway with a total of -14 (234 throws)!
Olle Samuelsson from Sweden, who already won the gold medal in MP60 (2016 and 2018) secured silver with -8 (240 throws). Markku Tohni and Esko Jokinen, both from Finland shared the bronze with +6 (254 throws).

There was not a complete dominance by Finland at the EMDGC 2025, however the Finns take home a total of 10 medals and 3 European Champion title. This still make Finland Europe’s stronges country again. Finland already won 8 of 12 medals (three gold, two silver and three bronze) at the EDGC 2025 in Norway.
Congratulations to all medal winners at the EMDGC, but also to all European countries having sent their best players to compete in this most important European Masters Disc Golf event in 2025.
